August Dementia Friends Newsletter

The Newsletter from the Dementia Friends website.

Welcome to the August Dementia Friends newsletter. This month we've got a fascinating interview with Dave Daniel who is living with dementia. We also have lots of ways for you to get involved, give your feedback and make a difference.

Meet Dave Daniel, 53, living with dementia

Dave Daniel

Dave Daniel, 53, was diagnosed with dementia 4 years ago. We caught up with Dave over Zoom where he talked about the most difficult parts of living with dementia, why the coronavirus two metre rule is particularly challenging for him and the one thing he thinks would make a real difference for people with dementia. Plus, Dave talks about something that he's wanted to get off his chest for years. Have a watch!

Help us keep families connected

'I know it’s for the best, but the hardest thing to cope with is that you don’t know how long it will go on for.'

John’s wife, Lesley, is living with dementia in a care home. Because of coronavirus, John has not been able to visit Lesley every day as he would usually do. You can help Fix Dementia Care by sending Alzheimer’s Society’s briefing to your local Councillor.

Share your experience – Care During the Pandemic Survey

We want to understand the impact that the coronavirus pandemic has had on families providing informal care for a loved one with dementia. We're inviting all carers to share their experiences in our survey. Your response will help us push for change at the highest level and influence the government to put the needs of people affected by dementia first.

'Somebody would come and approach me and I'd have a conversation, deal with it, walk on and suddenly I'd realise I couldn't remember who they were.'
