Audley Care is domiciliary care agency. We are based at Clevedon retirement village and provide care to owners of the apartments should they need it. We also provide homecare to the local community. This can range from companionship and shopping trips, through all aspects of personal care, up to palliative care. We strongly believe that everyone should have the choice to be able to stay in their own home as long as possible.

Action Plan

 1. How would you describe your organisation’s role in delivering better outcomes for people with dementia and their carers?

Our carers will encourage, support and motivate our service users by ensuring they respect value and provide a range of options and opportunities and their right to choose. We will endeavour to provide our service users with relevant information to make their own informed choices. We will encourage and stimulate service users to stay involved within their community which will reflex their interests which they can participate and enjoy together. We will continue to ensure our organisation will keep ourselves informed of all new developments in research so we can support our carers with a greater knowledge and understanding of Dementia which will ensure our carers deliver the appropriate person centred care.

2. What are the challenges to delivering these outcomes from the perspective of your organisation?

Are there any problems that you need to overcome to do this?

There will always be challenges in regards to implementing changes to any businesss. With regards to home care, one of these is time. Finding the time to make sure that carers are up to date with the most relevant directives and advances within dementia care and making sure that these are being carried out. As a retirement village one other challenge is the amount of people who live on the village and attempting to deliver the dementia friends talk to them all. This is one of our main goals so that our village becomes entirely dementia friendly and is a safe place for those who live with it to live.

-       Our staff are continually and will continue to be trained in specific dementia areas and how to deal with dementia properly by attending courses and using our E-learning portal.

-       We will be holding numerous events with Dementia Friends Ilkley Action in order to deliver talks and information sessions to all of our village owners and club members. We will also invite our community clients and their family’s to attend these sessions.

-       We will try to make the village a more dementia friendly place by making sure that facility’s are well sign posted, directions are easily found and staff are trained to be able to help anyone who may need it. We can also make physical changes to our village such as no using dark floor mats and making sure flooring is plain and not in confusing patterns.
